Additional Notes

Former fire station, which was made surplus to requirements following relocation of the fire service to new premises. On account of this, the site was identified as a housing allocation in the Alnwick and Denwick Neighbourhood Plan (Site H2-6). However, an application for change of use to provide a mixed-use scheme comprising business (B1/B8) and training use (D1) was permitted in 2019 (19/01702/FUL).The building has now been converted to house this use and, as a result, the site will not be available for redevelopment in the foreseeable future and no residential development is forecast within the plan period at present. However, this position could change in the longer-term, and the site remains an allocated site in the Neighbourhood Plan.

What is Brownfield Land?

Brownfield land is previously developed land that may be available for redevelopment. The government prioritises brownfield development over greenfield sites to protect countryside and make efficient use of existing infrastructure. Local authorities maintain Brownfield Land Registers to identify suitable sites for housing.
